- Three Easy Steps
LOCATE THE PROBLEM
Familiarize yourself with what a fire ant mound looks like. Don't bother looking in low areas because these areas are too wet. Water causes mounds to collapse and as the ants rebuild, dirt is added to the mound. This is the reason "new" mounds magically appear after a rain. Mounds most often appear on higher ground, in flower beds, and around shrubs and trees.
WORK ONLY ONE SECTION AT A TIME: Divide the property to be treated into small sections. Carefully inspect each section and mark the location of each mound with a
flag
or stake. NOTE: A good time to inspect the property is while mowing.
MOUND IDENTIFICATION IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT
Carefully locate and identify each mound per instructions. If you have 20 mounds in your yard and accidentally miss identifying one for treatment, you still have a problem.
FLOOD THE MOUND

For small areas, a bucket can be used for mixing. If more than a few mounds are present, a garden hose attachable sprayer will greatly reduce the work load. If the property is three acres or more, consider using a mixing/applicator tank. Whichever system you use, be sure you have an adequate supply of cool water.
If using a bucket or tank add the desired amount of

concentrate first.

concentrate should be added at 1-2 ounces per gallon of treatment solution desired. In warmer weather when ground temperature is greater than 80 degrees, the higher concentration will improve treatment efficiency. Fill the container with cold water. If using an attachable garden hose sprayer, simply add concentrate and set at 1-2 ounces per gallon.
Begin the treatment by drenching the outside perimeter of the mound. Slowly move inward and pour or spray the diluted solution directly into the mound. Pour or spray rapidly, but at a volume which will not cause runoff. Use enough of the solution to totally
FLOOD
the mound, and use any remaining solution to level the mound completely.
NOTE: Pouring directly from the bucket is not recommended...Use a small applicator to improve efficiency and reduce runoff. An inexpensive applicator is a one gallon milk jug with the top cut out. Just dip the applicator into the bucket and pour.
CAUTION...BE CAREFUL WHEN CUTTING PLASTIC MILK CONTAINER.
PROBLEM SOLVED
Wait at least 3-5 days before checking the mounds.

is not a contact poison. The product treatment will take some time to be completely effective, and some of the ants may appear to be active for a few days. If the ground temperature was 80 degrees or higher during application, a second treatment may be required. Mounds located around tree bases, edges of sidewalks, driveways, and retaining walls may require additional applications.

works in the heat of summer, but is most effective under cool or even cold conditions. For this reason, it is best to use this product in the spring, fall, winter or early morning/late evening during heat of summer.
